Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarships – Applications for 2020 now open

The Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarships were first launched in 2014 to assist apprentices who have experienced hardship in their life to successfully complete their apprenticeship. The Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarships assist apprentices in NSW who have demonstrated: hardship in their personal circumstances aptitude for vocational education and training to lead to successful completion of their trade training a positive attitude and application in the workplace and in off-the-job training There will be a maximum of 95 Scholarships awarded in 2020, including up to 20 Scholarships for Indigenous Apprentices. Diploma of Agronomy added to the NSW Skills List

Training Services NSW as part of the NSW Department of Education has just updated its Smart and Skilled Skills List for 2020. Only qualifications on the NSW Skills List are eligible to attract NSW Government funding for training delivery and assessment. The Diploma of Agronomy (22273VIC) has now been added to the this list. The qualification price is listed at $4,820 for the first qualification fee and subsequent qualification fee to the student is $5,430. New Era for VET: A Report on Rapid Review of the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s Regulatory Practice and Process

In March 2020, Mpconsulting released a report that was prepared for the Federal Department of Education, Skills and Employment on a review of ASQA’s regulatory practices and processes. This report is part of overall reforms in Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. COVID-19 and Bush fire Recovery Funding

COVID-19 and the recent bushfires in NSW have had severe impacts on the agrifood industries. As such, the NSW Department of Education – Training Services NSW has made funding available for part qualifications for priority skills sets in the areas of bushfire recovery and COVID-19 response. Priority skill sets were identified through research, regional engagement and industry consultation. Priority skill sets were also developed to support bushfire clean up for specific regions. Priority skill sets include, first aid, chain of responsibility, Chainsaw Training. Other skill sets being funded are manual handling, too handling, white card and fencing. Showcase Day Participant to Successful business man

Oden Boulter is a success story.  In 2017 he participated in a showcase day organised by the NSW Agrifood Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB) for the beekeeping industry in the Central West of NSW.  On that day Oden showed enthusiasm and promise and was soon offered a  school-based traineeship (SBT) along with his friend Emma Jackson at Goldfield’s Honey in Vittoria NSW. These are aimed at providing for immediate and short term needs, to support recovery from the bushfires across NSW. These assistance measures include immediate emergency assistance, emergency temporary accommodation, clean up assistance, animal welfare, Commonwealth Government Disaster Recovery Payment, Commonwealth Government Disaster Recovery Allowance, NSW Government Disaster Relief Grants, Primary Producer Assistance, small business assistance, legal assistance may be of use to the agrifood industries. AgVision 2019 a Success

The NSW Agrifood ITAB participated in AgVision 2019 that was held at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park on the 7th August 2019. Over 1200 students from 52 schools across both rural and metropolitan NSW attended the careers day and informed about the myriad or exciting careers in the agrifood industries. The ITAB Executive Officer promoted careers across the agrifood sectors including, agriculture, shearing, beekeeping meat processing, amenity horticulture, seafood, racing and baking to name a few.
